Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a highly recommended technique to be applied after a surgery as it can expedite the healing process. Following a surgical procedure, the area affected becomes swollen and the pressure that is created at the site of the surgery causes pain and discomfort.

At Feeling Great, our therapists have ample experience with the following procedures:

  • Knee replacement
  • Hip replacement
  • Back surgery
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Post mastectomy
  • Cesarean delivery (C-section)
  • DIEP Flap
  • Non-invasive surgery

MLD is a powerful technique that involves applying gentle pressure and sweeping motions, which stimulates and encourages the natural movement of Lymph Fluid across the body. The Lymphatic System is part of the immune system and it’s responsible for removing excess fluid from the body, absorbing fats, and protecting the body against disease.

Although MLD might seem like a simple massage technique, it can lead to serious side effects for individual with certain medical conditions if performed improperly. Please read the contraindications to see if MLD is right for you. Please contact your primary physician if you have any of the following conditions/contraindications:

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Acute cellulitis
  • DVT
  • Kidney disorders
  • Acute inflammation or infection/malignancies
  • Arteriosclerosis
  • Acute cold/flu
  • Fever
  • Some medications

For best healing results: follow the recommended treatment plan, wear compression garments, light-walks inside the home if able to, consume a light & clean diet* with plenty of water for 6 months after surgery.

*No caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, greasy/fatty foods, high-sugar content foods
